This weekend was special in terms of competition. Not only are records being made in the Olympics, but a group of chefs in Amman, Jordan set a record of their own with the world’s largest falafel. The 74.75 kg falafel breaks the previous record of 23.94 kg set at the Santa Clarita Valley Jewish Food and Cultural Festival in California last year.“It is a great honor for us. We are proud. Falafel is a part of our tradition and heritage and I am glad to see that we proved that,” said one participant. The Jordan Times daily reported that the world’s largest falafel was prepared by ten chefs from The Landmark Hotel, and was later offered as a starter during an iftar meal attended by 600 people. To break the previous record, the chefs used 80 kg of chickpeas, 5 kg of onions and 2 kg fresh parsley and coriander, and 350 liters of vegetable oil to fry the falafel.
