Chickpeas are known to be high in zinc, protein, and fiber. Recent studies have shown that chickpeas are actually even more healthy than that. Studies from Mayo Clinic have shown that dietary fiber lowers cholesterol, which in turn lowers the risk of diabetes, hypertension, and coronary heart disease.
Although these studies are recent and still need more testing, they have shown that eating chickpeas everyday for 5-20 weeks resulted in a 4% lower cholesterol and a decrease in low density lipoproteins (LDL) by 3%.
